U.S. Marks 100th Anniversary of Tulsa Race Massacre, When White Mob Destroyed “Black Wall Street”

Memorial Day marks the 100th anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre, one of the deadliest episodes of racial violence in U.S. history, when the thriving African American neighborhood of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma — known as “Black Wall Street” — was burned to the ground by a white mob. An estimated 300 African Americans were killed and over 1,000 injured.
Whites in Tulsa actively suppressed the truth, and African Americans were intimidated into silence. But efforts to restore the horrific event to its rightful place in U.S. history are having an impact.
Survivors testified last week before Congress, calling for reparations. President Biden is set to visit Tulsa on Tuesday. We speak with documentary filmmaker Stanley Nelson, whose new film premiering this weekend explores how Black residents sought out freedom in Oklahoma and built a thriving community in Greenwood, and how it was all destroyed over two days of horrific violence. Nelson notes many African Americans migrated westward after the Civil War “to start a new life” with dignity. “Greenwood was one of over 100 African American communities in the West,” he says. “Greenwood was the biggest and the baddest of those communities.”

It may take awhile, but VICTORY is SURE. In less than 3 generations of USA’ version of Chattel emancipation, the African, after centuries of creating for others, was taking care of business, his business. This aged lesson is profound, it was the era of the New York Renaissance, Marcus Garvey the Esteemed Jamaican born African was having his say, W.E B Dubois was in his heyday, it was the roaring 20′, Freedom was in the making. Institutionalized Hate had already been planted with Jim Crow , 100yrs later Black Lives Matter is still the Wailing sound. Today, Reparations for past Crimes against the African is going to gather real momentum. History tells us that Truth crush to Earth shall Rise again, the Africans are in the process of doing just that. There have been questionable arsons that have destroyed African owned enterprises in Chaguanas and San-Fernando some years back, much didn’t come out with investigations and like Tulsa it remains covered. The next BIG initiated Struggle for Trinidad Africans, will be Reparations. Fingers are to be pointed at the Catholic church, Anglican, Islam / Jewish so-called Religious Houses, and be called upon to account for their legendary benefits derived from SLAVERY. Like the Phoenix rising from the ASHES, the African moves on SALVAGING HIS past. The LONGER the BATTLE, the SWEETER the VICTORY. STILL I RISE.
