They came in buses, maxis and cars from all over Trinidad to pay their last respects. Many persons in attendance admitted that they did not know Jizelle personally but her life inspired them in some way.
There were contingents of young boxers from various boxing gyms, a large contingent of martial artists led by Don Jacob, moko jumbies, many school children in uniform and numerous public personalities including Maximus Dan, Hasely Crawford and double Olympic silver medallist Richard Thompson. PARISH Priest of St Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Father David Khan, has challenged supporters, family members and friends of Giselle Salandy at her funeral service in La Romaine yesterday to be better than the successful boxer.
He told the hundreds of mourners that if they claim to love Salandy as has been expressed, then they should show her that they can do better than her.

Jizelle Salandy, is she really gone?
i ask myself this question every day, its really difficult to accept.
Such a nice person, a divine trini…she has gone to a place where she’s needed most…
Why isn’t anyone speaking about the way she was driving? How fast was she driving? There needs to be an effort by all drivers to be safe, and consider the lives of other drivers, and their passengers. She will not be the last to die on the roads, unless there is a serious crackdown by the “law.”
R.I.P DARLING ME AND YOUR SIS WENT TO SCHOOL TOGETHER AND SHE SPOKE ABOUT U ALL THE TIME WHAT A SAD TIME FOR EVERYONE IMPACTED BY THIS GREAT LOSS….
Wat a sad moment, knowing gis to be a strong person,it still kind of hard to believe that she is gone. She her sister an i all went to school together, but were in ah higher level than her.Knowing that joel taking her along with him while he was boxing,he still can’t get over her death, but as she accepted God as her personal saviour, the only thing I can say is how she live her life on the face of the earth. She was only 21,she now started a new life and gone to soon.REST IN PEACE MY SISTER(RIP)

IT WAAS SUCH A TRAJIC THAT I ONLY BEGAN TO APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DID WHEN YOU,VE GONE. THOUGH I DIDN,T KNOW YOU PERSONALLY DEATH RIPPED OUT PIECE OF ME SO SUDDEN. EVERYTIME I SEE A PICTURE OF YOU AM TEMPTED TO TAKE IT BUT I KNOW IT WILL NEVER BRING A OPPORTUNITY FOR ME TO EVER GET TO MEET YOUIN PERSON. TO ALL READERS ,FAMILY,FRIENDS MY DUEST WHISH IS FOR YOU TO START APPRECIATING THOSE AROUND YOU BEFORE ITS TO LATE.
I never had the chance to know but hearing about her on the news. Made her my hero. Hope no one forgets what she did for us as the “TRINI ROSE”
i did a song for Jizelle Salandy’s passing hope to get it on air.
Why did you leave
why did you go
why did you have to walk out that door
wait a minute what’s going on?
i can’t believe my eye’s
your gone to soon.
sitting hear looking at your picture on the wall,
hoping it would come back to life,
but no matter how hard i slap it, i shake it, or move it
it just wouldn’t come back to life.
well that’s an idea of the song.
really hope the youths use Jizelle Salandy’s success and do the goods, hope there realize that thy don’t have to chose the bad way to be recognized. I was really hurt by Jizelle’s passing but i know nothing happens before it’s time. We must all lean form the goods others contribute.
The last time there was such a massive outpouring I am sure was in 1981 at the demise of our ‘much beloved father of the nation’- Dr Eric Williams. The untimely death of this young beautiful gem of a lady an rising star was tragic indeed, one should say at the onset. I do not have the precise facts or details of her accident, and like many have to depend on what appears on the surface as rumors, innuendos ,and numerous other baseless speculations – a typical T&T dilemma.
These ranged from any of the following :- Was she wearing her seatbelt, driving while intoxicated , auguring with her girl friend in the car, fell asleep after too much partying like Thompson our Olympian , or fell prey to the sub par road conditions that exist in the land of the Pitch Lake ?
The question is how do we positively capitalize on this tragedy to first honor her memory and sterling contributions to the nation in this her short life , while we simultaneously prevent others from suffering similar fate in the future?
Come on politicians and activist , time to stop bickering foolishly over nonsense like Integrity Commission, laptop in parliament, renaming streets, regional conferences , and either ensure that present traffic laws are enforced or tweaked so that they are reflective of 21st century demands.
With a poor public transportation in existence ,and unreliable taxi service , everyone of our 1.3 million population therefore feels it necessary to own and drive a vehicle. The deaths and carnage on the road has always been high , but has been generally ignored by many in the media and on the political stage principally because it is not as ‘politically sexy’ as that of alleged kidnapping, and other seemingly uncontrollable crimes. Let’s follow the examples of the big boys and girls of much beloved developed countries – I am hoping to hear of the ‘Jizelle Salandy Traffic Enforcement Law’ introduced in the House by the young rising UNC political superstar Mikela Panday and fully supported by the PNM power brokers in true political non- partisan fashion. See, out of evil and tragedy can come some good – but Neal you should stop dreaming, or more correctly drinking. Please no driving. Can I get me a designated driver any one? What a country , this sweet T&T -aka Rainbow country – of ours eh!
Regards.
i am so sorry to hear about her untimely death. may she rest in peace from a true true fan of yours.
