Hillview College, founded as Naparima College, Tunapuna Branch on 17 January 1955 inaugurated the celebration of its Diamond Jubilee with a Thanksgiving and Plaque Dedication Service held at the Aramalaya Church on 17 January earlier this year. Delivering an inspiring and fitting message was the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, the Rt. Rev’d Brenda Bullock, graduate of Iere High School shown below.

Dismantling the National Heritage of Caroni

Stephen KangalThe modernization and establishment of the dual carriage-way of the new Southern Main Road in Caroni that was formally commissioned by the Honourable Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Wednesday 18 March had the unfortunate effect of destroying a unique chapter of local history. A land-mark bus stop was built in Frederick Settlement in 1952 resulting from representations conducted by the village first County Councillor, the late Rangasammy Chatee served to insulate and provide shelter to residents from adverse weather conditions until 2014.

Road Demonstration at Frederick Settlement

Stephen KangalVillagers of Frederick Settlement undertook a placard demonstration on 22 December 2014 to highlight the problems that originated from the building of the New Southern Main Road.

A decision on the demonstration was taken at the end of the Meeting of Residents held on Thursday last (18 December) at the Frederick Settlement Community Centre based on the statements made by the residents expressing fears for the safety of their children while crossing the dualled and expanded roadway as well as the absence of Minister Rambachan from the Meeting although invited.

Decline of Our Diplomatic Relations

Stephen KangalAn underlying worrisome diplomatic situation exists today in five of T&T’s Overseas Missions. Diplomatic relations are conducted in accordance with the principle and practices of reciprocity and the comity of Nations. In India, UK, Costa Rica, Canada at the UN T&T representation has been scaled down to the level of junior but also inexperienced young and up-coming diplomats. This resulted from the withdrawal of both career and political appointed Ambassadors.
